Visualizing domains and surfaces to study continued fractions

Abstract
This talk will explore several visualizations that have helped in my study of even and odd continued fractions. The connection between the modular surface and regular continued fractions is well studied, including Series' description of cutting sequences of geodesics on the modular surface and hyperbolic plane. Based on work visualizing the modular surface with Steve Trettel during ICERM Semester, I began trying to understand the two cusp modular surface used in coding the even continued fractions. I will discuss some of the insights I gained about the connection between the even continued fractions and the two cusp surface.
