Mathematical Art: An Artist Perspective
Presenter

Abstract
There has been a growing interest in defining what constitutes mathematical art, sparked in part by George Hart’s article “What Can We Say about ‘Math/Art’?” in Notices of the AMS and by Emund Harris’s talk “Genuine Pretending: A Philosophy for Mathematics and Art” at the Bridges Eindhoven 2025. In this presentation, I offer my personal journey in making mathematical art from an artist perspective. I will share several projects to illustrate how I use artistic expression to interpret mathematical concepts—and, conversely, how I draw on mathematical ideas and techniques for creative expression and material exploration and in art and design.
