This talk will discuss the images of mod-ell Galois representations associated to a principally polarized abelian surface over Q. We report on an algorithm to determine the mod-3 Galois image, with no dependence on the endomorphism ring of the surface. Moreover, we will discuss progress towards explicitly realizing all possible mod-3 Galois images.
