The racial/ethnic categories listed above were part of a 1997 specification of such groups by the U.S. Office of Management
and Budget. These specifications, detailed here below, were adopted as new government-wide standards for
collection of data on race and ethnicity effective January 1st, 2003.
Black or African American-A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa.
American Indian or Alaska Native-A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America) and who maintains tribal affiliation or community attachment.
Asian -A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent; for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Samoa, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander-A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, or other Pacific islands.
White-A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa.
Hispanic or Latino-A person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race
More than one race reported-A person reporting two or more of the racial/ethnic categories listed above.
